Volunteering in Cybersecurity

ISACA Illini
Living in a rural area, it’s always a thrill to find a group that’s local to your area. That was my experience in late 2022 when I found ISACA Illini. Servicing the Central Illinois cybersecurity, GRC, Risk and Audit communities, ISACA Illini is concentrated in the Bloomington-Springfield-Champaign lateral. Referred to as “downstate” by most of the locals, this part of our state still has many orgs with a cyber footprint, and chapters like this provide us with the community we need.
Raíces Cyber Org
Starting in 2022, I assumed the role of National Communications Director with Raices Cyber Org. Formed in 2020, Raices Cyber is on a mission to increase the representation of Latinos, Latinas, LatinX, and Hispanic professionals in cybersecurity jobs. The first in-person conference happened in October of 2023 and saw over 500 community members attend. At the end of 2023, I was offered the opportunity to step into the newly created CMO role, heading up all national and international chapter events, partnerships, content development and strategy, design and publishing, PR and Media, and community management via Discord, LinkedIn, Twitter, FB, and others.
WiCyS Chicago
In early 2022, I was asked to join the WiCyS Chicago leadership team as the Social Media Lead. I manage all content and postings for our chapter, and am involved in all events, booths, comms with national, branding, graphic design, and speaker management. We work with community partners throughout the cybersecurity community in Chicago, most recently including CISO of the Year, AITP Chicago, ISACA Chicago, ISSA Chicago, DePaul University, and others.

Consulting Work
From 2022 to 2023, I supported Sightline Security as a fractional marketing consultant. Sightline is a 501(c)-3 that specializes in helping nonprofits operationalize their security. I was hired to help them migrate into a HubSpot tech stack and standardize their website and email program. I also provided speaker support and event marketing work for the 2023 RSA Conference.

Security Innovation
A leader in the product security and services space, Security Innovation has been a cybersecurity powerhouse for over 20 years. Contacted via my network, I was contracted for 18 months or so to provide fractional marketing work, including partnership and Event support for their cybersecurity mentoring programs. The follow is a sample of the work I completed on their behalf, which appears on their website.

Secure Diversity
Held role as Volunteer Marketing Leader from 2016-2022. I was a founding member of this nonprofit team and in this role, I executed hundreds of events in the tech and cyber communities. Primarily, our work was targeted towards increasing the number of women in cybersecurity and producing the Day of Shecurity events and conferences.
